Susan Naomi Bernstein

Susan Naomi Bernstein is currently an Adjunct Assistant Professor of English at Queens College and Baruch College/CUNY and works extensively in the academic field of Basic Writing.  Her publications include the essays “Occupy Basic Writing,” in Welch and Scott’s collection Composition in the Age of Austerity, “A Limestone Way of Learning,” in Chronicle of Higher Education, and the books Teaching Developmental Writing  4e (Bedford/St. Martin’s) and A Brief Guide to the Novel (Pearson). Her article on graduate training and Basic Writing is forthcoming in Journal of Basic Writing. She served as co-coordinator of the Stretch First-Year Writing Program at Arizona State University from 2013-2018.  She blogs at Bedford Bits: Ideas for Teaching Composition.  Her play, After the Haboob, was performed on December 17, 2018 at the A.R.T./New York Theatres Mezzanine Theatre, as part of TheaterWorks! Short Plays on Caregiving at CUNY.  It explores the challenges of learning information when a loved one suddenly takes ill or becomes injured.
